I read two academic articles for this particular project that discussed the importance of learning to handle our complex emotions in a healthy way at an early age. They were studies of academic and social improvement with the added experimental curriculum of emotional intelligence focused on children from ages 6 – 18. I learned a lot about not just the importance of learning to control your own emotions, but how a lack of understanding of the topic can become dangerous for the future. I made this piece to incorporate a sense of self as an adult and the possible traumatic experiences that I have had and the confusion that went along with being a child. I think that everything no matter how dangerous and hateful was always labeled as love for me which is why I was so blind to the things that were explicitly harmful to both my physical and mental wellbeing.
