breathing in a time of disaster
A project by Ching-In Chen + Cassie MiraBreathing in a Time of Disaster is an improvised choral performance, installation and speculative writing project focused on the unit of breath.
This project first developed from our shared response to the 2016 Tax Day Floods and 2017 Hurricane Harvey. In 2022, we invited Houston and Seattle-area community artists and environmental justice leaders to contribute a breath recording, participate in a story circle and/or contribute a public ritual as part of a multimedia installation at Seattle’s Jack Straw New Media Gallery.
Our intention was for this online communal Breaths archive to be utilized as a community resource. We invite you to become part of the Breath Chorus.
