The organization I found is called “Find the Light Foundation.” The group of students that I chose to research is important because focusing on specific student groups like mental health, depression etc, is essential for promoting equity in the education era. It ensures that resources and attention are directed to those who may face barriers and disparities, working towards a more equitable educational system.

Here’s the background of this organization. “Find the Light Foundation” was from a place of deep sadness. They had experienced the loss of a community member to suicide, and as we looked around, we realized that many people around us had also lost someone to a mental health crisis during their teenage and early adult years. Their journey began when they posted a message on Facebook, highlighting the alarming number of suicides and overdoses in our local school district. To their surprise, the post gained rapid attention, with nearly a thousand shares by the end of the day, leading to the creation of a Facebook group. Within a short time, the group had over a thousand members and was steadily growing.

In “Find the Light Foundation” they are dedicated to addressing the issue of students often being left out of discussions about improving schools. That’s why they collect input from administrators, teachers, parents, and most importantly, students, to conduct a comprehensive assessment. They have programs with different activities, and one of them is called “Candlelight Vigil.” They also have Leadership Foundation Summit.

Their needs Assessment is carefully designed with input from experts in developmental psychology, school-based healthcare agencies, and mental health professionals. They believe that involving all stakeholders in the assessment process is crucial for identifying other schools’ strengths and weaknesses and pinpointing areas that need improvement. They can do better in helping schools create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. The information about the organization is accessible.
